When we launched LongeviSkin in January, I promised we'd do real tracking with objective metrics, not filtered selfies. 60 days later, I have the data. What is LongeviSkin and why I designed it this way

LongeviSkin is a powder food supplement with Type I+III hydrolysed collagen (10g/dose), liposomal vitamin C and oral hyaluronic acid (120mg). That's it. No pomegranate extracts, no plant ceramides, none of the 15 marketing ingredients saturating the market.

Why only 3 ingredients? Because the evidence for collagen + vitamin C in dermal synthesis is solid (meta-analyses, RCTs), whilst the rest are bets with in vitro studies or mouse models. I prefer 3 things that work to 15 that sound good.

The collagen comes from European grass-fed beef, enzymatically hydrolysed into peptides <3kDa (molecular weight that guarantees intestinal absorption). The vitamin C is liposomal because standard ascorbic acid destroys your stomach at the doses needed to be an effective cofactor (>500mg/day).

It's not that you 'fill' your skin with external collagen. The peptides act as signallers that wake up your fibroblasts (the cells that make dermal collagen) and tell them 'hey, there's building material available, get to work'.

Vitamin C enters as an obligatory cofactor in the hydroxylation of proline and lysine, the rate-limiting step in collagen synthesis. Without enough vitamin C, your fibroblasts can't stabilise collagen chains even if they have peptides.

Measurement protocol: how I avoided confirmation bias

I didn't want another 'review' based on 'I feel like my skin is better'. I designed a rigorous but practical protocol:

CM825 Corneometer (measures stratum corneum hydration via electrical capacitance): 5 points on right cheek, 1 control point on inner forearm. Measurement every 15 days, always 8am, no cream beforehand.

Results at 60 days: what changes (and what doesn't)

Hydration: the most objective change

Day 0: corneometer reads 32 units (dry skin, normal for January in Madrid with heating).

Day 30: 34 units (+6%). Disappointing. This is where many people quit.

Day 45: 38 units (+18%). The jump appears between day 30–45, not before.

Day 60: 42 units (+31%). The curve accelerates.

Conclusion: judging before 45 days is premature. Endogenous collagen synthesis and dermal remodelling take a minimum of 6–8 weeks. The most robust RCT studies measure at 8–12 weeks, not 4.

Elasticity: subtle change, age-dependent

In my case (43 years, moderate sun-damaged skin): cutometer detected no significant change (<5% variation, within device margin of error).

In the 3 users >50 years: 2 of 3 showed 8–12% improvement in R2 parameter (net elasticity). The third, a smoker, showed zero change.

Interpretation: in skin with advanced collagen degradation (>50 years, smokers, severe sun damage), the margin for improvement is greater and more detectable. In skin with acceptable collagen reserve, change is maintenance, not reversal.

Fine lines: visible in photos, deep wrinkles don't budge

Periocular area (crow's feet): visible reduction in fine lines in day 60 photo versus day 0. Deep ones (nasolabial folds, forehead lines) don't move.

Oral collagen doesn't erase established grooves. It improves texture, softens superficial lines, adds 'turgidity'. It's not injected hyaluronic acid.

The adherence factor: why so many people don't see results

Of the 47 users tracking, 19 (40%) skipped doses >4 days/month. In this group, average hydration increase was 5% (versus 18% in adherent users).

Collagen synthesis is a continuous process. If you supply peptides intermittently, fibroblasts don't receive sustained signalling. It's like going to the gym 2 days a month and expecting muscle growth.

Real barrier: taste. Although LongeviSkin has no flavourings, hydrolysed collagen has a particular organoleptic profile. Solution that worked: mix it with black coffee or pure cocoa (cocoa fat masks the taste).

Cofactors that multiply (or cancel) results

Vitamin C: non-negotiable

Users not taking additional vitamin C (only from the product, ~100mg) saw 30% inferior results versus those taking 500–1000mg/day additionally (from other sources or stacks).

The liposomal vitamin C in LongeviSkin supplies ~100mg, sufficient as basic cofactor, but if your diet is low in citrus/peppers/kiwi, you need more.

Total protein: the overlooked limit

If your total protein intake is below 1.2g/kg/day, you're limiting endogenous synthesis even if you take collagen. Fibroblasts need a complete pool of amino acids, not just Gly-Pro-Hyp.

Example: 70kg user with 60g protein/day intake (0.85g/kg) saw minimal changes until increasing to 85g/day.

Sun protection: the elephant in the room

Of the 8 users with zero or negative results (hydration decreased), 7 didn't use daily SPF50. UVA radiation degrades dermal collagen faster than oral collagen can compensate.

You can't out-supplement a lifestyle that destroys collagen. Smoking, unprotected sun exposure, inflammatory diet, sleep <6 hours... they cancel any benefit.

How to choose an oral collagen that works (without wasting money)

The market is saturated with products containing 2g of collagen, 18 unsupported extracts and inflated prices from influencer marketing. What to look for:

Minimum dose 5g, optimal 10g/day: RCT studies use 2.5–10g. Below 5g is expensive homeopathy.

FAQ: real user questions

Can I take LongeviSkin if I'm vegetarian?

No, hydrolysed collagen is animal-derived (bovine). There's no vegetable collagen (it's exclusively animal protein). Alternative: increase intake of vitamin C + lysine + proline (amino acid precursors) through diet or supplementation, but efficacy evidence is much lower than with direct collagen.

How long do I need to take it for permanent results?

Changes are not permanent if you stop. Oral collagen maintains an 'elevated state' of synthesis whilst you're taking it. If you stop, in 8–12 weeks you return to baseline. It's like exercise: benefits persist while you train, not forever after 3 months.

Can I combine it with topical retinol and vitamin C?

Yes, it's actually the optimal combination: oral collagen (stimulates from within) + topical retinol (increases cell turnover and epidermal collagen synthesis) + topical vitamin C (antioxidant, additional photoprotection). No negative interaction. Just apply retinol at night and vitamin C in the morning under SPF50.

Does it work the same in men and women?

Dermal physiology is identical. Men tend to see slightly superior elasticity results (male skin has 25% more baseline collagen than female skin), but they also usually have worse adherence (sampling bias in mine: 73% women, 27% men).

What if I skip 3–4 days in a row?

It's not the elixir of eternal youth. It's a serious tool, with validated biological mechanism, that slows dermal deterioration and improves existing skin quality. If you expect to erase 20 years of photoageing in 2 months, you'll be disappointed. If you expect your 50-year-old skin to be better than your peers who do nothing, you'll achieve it.
